Electrophoretic Deposition (E-Coat) Services

Advanced corrosion protection for complex metal components. When corrosion resistance matters, E-Coat is one of the most effective finishing systems available. At TMF – Total Metal Finishing Ltd, we provide high-quality Electrophoretic Deposition (E-Coat) for manufacturers, OEMs and engineering businesses across the UK. Using our modern E-Coat facility, we deliver a consistent, fully enclosed coating that protects complex metal components from corrosion while providing the perfect foundation for powder coating or wet paint. Whether you're producing one-off prototypes or high-volume production batches, we'll recommend the right coating solution to maximise product life and minimise maintenance.

Electrophoretic Deposition (E-Coat) Services

Why Choose E-Coat?

Unlike conventional spray painting, E-Coat doesn't rely on an operator reaching every surface. Instead, components are fully immersed in a specially formulated coating solution before an electrical current draws the coating evenly across every conductive surface.

That means outstanding protection for internal cavities, tubular fabrications, box sections, welded assemblies, recessed areas and complex geometries. The result is a smooth, consistent coating that protects areas traditional paint systems simply can't reach.

Built for Long-Term Corrosion Protection

If your components operate in demanding environments, corrosion protection isn't optional — it's essential. When combined with the correct preparation process, E-Coat delivers exceptional long-term performance and can significantly extend the life of your components.

  • Excellent corrosion resistance
  • Uniform coating thickness
  • Complete coverage on complex components
  • Outstanding edge protection
  • Excellent adhesion
  • Reduced coating waste
  • Environmentally responsible water-based application
  • The ideal primer for powder coating or wet paint

How the Process Works

Every project follows a carefully controlled process to ensure a reliable, repeatable finish.

Surface Preparation — components are cleaned to remove oils, grease, dirt and other contaminants before entering the E-Coat process. Where required, abrasive shot blasting is carried out to prepare the surface.

Chemical Pre-Treatment — the metal then undergoes chemical pre-treatment to improve adhesion and maximise corrosion resistance before coating begins.

E-Coat Application — components are immersed in the E-Coat tank, where electrically charged paint particles bond evenly across every exposed conductive surface. Because the coating builds itself naturally, it produces exceptional consistency — even on complex fabrications.

Oven Curing — the coated components are then cured in temperature-controlled ovens to create a tough, durable protective finish that's ready for service or further finishing.

The Perfect Base for Powder Coating

Many customers use E-Coat as part of a duplex coating system. After E-Coat, components can move directly into powder coating, wet paint spraying or specialist industrial coatings. This combines the outstanding corrosion protection of E-Coat with the colour, UV stability and cosmetic finish of the topcoat — creating one of the most durable coating systems available.

Ideal for a Wide Range of Industries

Our E-Coat service supports customers across automotive, rail, construction, agriculture, defence, heavy engineering, materials handling, industrial manufacturing, utilities and infrastructure. From pressed components to large fabricated assemblies, we help manufacturers improve product durability while maintaining consistent quality across every batch.

Why Choose TMF?

Choosing the right finishing partner is just as important as choosing the right coating. At TMF, we don't just offer E-Coat — we provide a complete metal finishing solution.

Keeping every stage under one roof means faster turnaround times, better quality control, reduced transport and handling, one point of contact from start to finish, and a finishing partner you can rely on.
