Shot Blast Cleaning Explained
Shot blast cleaning is a preliminary surface treatment, specifically designed to prepare surfaces for some form of industrial finishing. Often known as grit blasting or abrasive cleaning, the process is often used at Total Metal Finishings Ltd for surface preparation and it can be highly beneficial for clients wishing to optimise the performance of their chosen finish. The shot blasting process can remove scale, rust and other previous powder or paint coatings leaving a smooth surface ready to undertake its next treatment.
How does shot blasting work?
Here at Total Metal Finishings Ltd, as a leading shot blasting company we have an extensive range of equipment in order to successfully facilitate the shot blasting process. The technique involves hitting the surface of your project with a rapid stream of shot blast grit at a fast and impactful rate. Once the process is finished, the result is a clean surface that is ready for recoating. Our shot blast booths can accommodate projects measuring up to 7m x 5m, using high strength GH050 steel shot material. The process can achieve surface profiles ranging between 40-60 microns with the option to provide light blast cleaning through to visually clean steel dependant on what the customer requires.
